The crank shaft makes it home from the shop! The crank is 4 inches in diameter
and as you can see just fits cross ways in the back of my Dakota pickup....
I used my Ferguson TO30 tractor and post hole digger arm to lift the crank shaft
up and lower it into the main bearings on the engine base...
This photo is a close up of the crank shaft and if you look real good you can see
the .875 wide keyway slots on each side...
The crank shaft makes it into the engine. Next there is a lot of fitting (scraping)
to do on the babbitt and also to put the final touches on the oil grooves...
I pulled the crank shaft back out and finshed boring the timing gear so I could mount
it on the crank shaft. I made the hole a .0012 smaller then the crank diameter and heated
the gear up to a dull red color and slipped her on. When she cooled down the steel gear
was on for good....
This photo shows the throughs all painted and waiting for the bearing caps to be
fitted and installed...
Here you can see how the timing gears, cam, and governor all go together and how the
crank shaft timing gear interacts with everything...
The following is a photo of the Bovaird & Seyfang in the early 80's
still in the original power house. It pumped oil on a side hill a long
side the Allegeny River....
The engine is pulled out of the shop and ready for the flywheels...
Both flywheels are now installed and the tappered keys are hammered in...
The flywheels are final sanded and quite a few coats of primer are applied...
Here are (2) photos of the finished engine, all hooked up and ready to run...
Below are 3 photos of the 20 HP Bovaird & Seyfang at its home show of
"Victory Heights". The engine didn't go back till June of 2000 but it
did make it back to the show where only 1/2 mile down route #322 it pumped
oil for a living. On the previous web pages on the B&S you can see photos
of the engine on its original site. This was a proud moment for the 20 HP
B&S at the show...

Also available is a 4 hour long VHS video of the entire restoration project.
It includes getting the engine, tearing the engine down, making and machining parts,
pouring babbitt, assembling the engine, and running her for the first time. If you
